Got this ink done last night! The tattoo is in the shape of a Mandelbrot set, which to me, is symbolic of infinity, regeneration, life, knowledge and enlightenment.
When I got my first tattoo, I knew right away that I would like another, but that it would have to be my own artwork, something that represents who I am... and it would have to be tribal and swirly. I worked on this design for quite a while until I was pleased with it, then reworked it some more. So we headed over to Linden Road on the outskirts of glorious Flint, Michigan.
Here's Woody, from Custom Ink and Steel, placing the transfer:
Here is the outline, at which point Woody was needing a quick break and we were able to get some pics.

Almost done at this point. Look at those speedy hands. Loved this pic for precisely that reason! Took about 2 hours to ink total... By the time he was done, Woody said he was seeing swirls everywhere and needed to rest his eyes.
I can see some places where I want to have it touched up a little, but overall, I'm impressed with the ink and it didn't hurt as much as I had feared it would. The redness has gone down some today, so that's a good sign. I hope to post a new pic once it heals up completely. I love it because it says a lot about who I am and also reflects my adoration of fractals and spirals!

Had a little touch up work done... here's how it came out. I twisted at a bit of an angle which is why it doesn't look as symmetrical at the top. But yeah, it rocks even if my mother-in-law does think it's too big ;)
