I have many visions. I hope to live long enough to express each one of them through one form of art or another. My love of fractal mathematics influences even the works created using traditional mediums. The concepts of infinity, recursion, and reproduction are reoccurring themes.

View Article  Meet Syd

Syd Parrot is the newest member of our family! He is a 1 yr old Quaker who has already captured my heart! So far he's been pretty quiet. We drove a little over an hour to get him and all the way home, he bobbed his head while Michael whistled to him. Didn't make a sound!

Here is a picture of him puffing up his feathers. He does that when he's happy or when we blow raspberries. OMG he's adorable as heck! I just love his cute little cheekas!

He does a little chattering kinda under his breath like he's trying to whisper. He likes to sit on my shoulder and whenever I say "tickle tickle" and give a little rub he makes a little "t-t-t-t" sound. He gives kisses, and I could swear he's trying to say "kisses" but it's in that whispering chatter voice, not loud at all. He must be practicing. ;) His previous owner says he can talk a little, but so far he's been remarkably quiet. I guess he's waiting to impress us with those skills until he gets to know us better. He sure loves being the center of attention though.

Chaos. Infinity. Immortality. The idea that there is something beyond what we know, something larger than our existence, yet perhaps something as simple as a single string of code. These concepts fascinate me and provide the foundation of my passion for fractals.   more »

I have an interesting story about this song. The first time I ever heard (and subsequently fell immediately and madly in love with) The Clash I was 16 years old. My oldest step brother was serving in the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and one day my step mom had a wild hair to pile the family into the car and drive south across multiple states to surprise him with a visit. It was some time ago, but if I recall correctly, he wasn’t so happy to have us show up unexpectedly, but my stepsister and I sure were happy to walk into the barracks and receive such a warm welcome. We were the same age, young and silly, unabashedly strutting our stuff up and down the halls, fluttering our lashes at all the cute young soldiers.

Well, as it turned out, stepbro had a bunch of important stuff to do and couldn’t find much time to hang out with the fam. We ended up spending most our time at the motel. Luckily the hot weather kept my parents indoors because when my stepsister and I donned our suits and went for a swim in the outdoor pool, we drew a crowd of young soldiers who were there on leave. I don’t remember all of the details, but the interesting part of the story goes a little something like this...

View Article  So I was a Prolific 7 Year Old
This kinda ties in with my last post... Here's little a story I wrote when I was about 7 or 8. I used my crayons, pencil, fabric and newspaper to illustrate it. A couple years later in 4th grade, I gave myself the nickname of JJ which I wrote on the front of this "booklet" when I learned how to write in cursive. I don't know how my grandmother ended up with this, but she gave it back to me a couple years ago with a bunch of other stories I wrote. This one I just HAD to share!

View Article  Summer at Grandma's
I loved my Grandma Luxton (father's side) dearly. I wrote this letter 27 years ago and somehow it ended up making it's way back to me after all this time. Oddly enough, it was my other grandma on my mother's side that gave it back to me. I still wonder how this letter made it from my deceased grandmother to my mother's mother. But what I truly appreciate is how they both cared enough to keep this piece of paper all those years, something which might seem like such an insignificant thing to a child.

Mosquitos like you becuse your sweat. Hahaha!

Amy is my younger sister, who comments here frequently. Arianne is my cousin. I was 7 years old when I wrote this.

View Article  Communication
Stop and think about all the ways you communicate. In one day, I can easily mutually communicate or receive messages through several mediums. The Internet is my main source, chatting, email, reading, writing, conversing with others. Television, radio, telephone, snail mail, books, newspapers, magazines... many times words are agonized over before being transmitted, in the hopes to convey a precise message whether it be a broadcast or in print. But let's not forget the one way of communication I enjoy most (and I'm sure I'm not alone in this), and that is face-to-face.    more »

-->>UPDATE<<--

Had a little touch up work done... here's how it came out. I twisted at a bit of an angle which is why it doesn't look as symmetrical at the top. But yeah, it rocks even if my mother-in-law does think it's too big ;)

This is the computer my husband and I built last year. I named her Imagination because she handles all of my graphics apps, scanning, and most of the fractal rendering.

View Article  The Infamous Pickle Incident of 1990
Michael and I met with Jon and Jodi for drinks last night and somehow the conversation turned to the time I had to work the relish line at the pickle factory as punishment for starting a pickle fight. It is a story that is decidedly bloggable, so here goes!

Earlier this month I was a featured artist at Future-Art-Magazine at Deviant Art. I had an opportunity to talk a bit about my interest in fractals and just thought I'd share this great page layout with you. I also want to point you to their growing gallery where they feature many artists (index). My thanks goes out to my friend, Carolyn for nominating me!
